Russia - VimpelCom sees rise in 3rd-qtr 2003 profit
Vimpel-Communications (VimpelCom) (Russia), telecoms services provider, reports 3rd-qtr 2003 net profit which rose by 78% to USDlr72.2 mil, vs USDlr40.5 mil for the year-earlier period, on turnover which rose by 71% to USDlr379 mil. The company claims an around 30% of the Russian mobile phone market with its Bee Line brand. The company's subscriber base rose by 130% to 9.3 mil users in 3rd-qtr 2003. There were 32.3 mil mobile phone subscribers in Russia as of October 2003, vs 30.8 mil subscribers in September 2003, according to J'son + Partners (Moscow, Russia), consultancy. Cellular penetration currently amounts to 22.3% of the population.
