18 November 2003 14:50 One Russia leader promises Volga voters to cut business bureaucracy [Presenter] The co-chairman of the supreme council of One Russia, Sergey Shoygu, has visited the capital of the
Chuvash Republic. He visited the tractor factory in Cheboksary, where he was shown new agricultural machinery being
produced by the factory. He also answered questions from the workers. In general, they complained to him about their low
pay. Shoygu promised to look into the situation.
Later Shoygu went to the theatre where he met the Chuvash people. Shoygu told them what One Russia was doing for
small and medium-sized businesses.
[Shoygu] We are putting a fair amount of effort into reducing the heavy burden of bureaucracy on business, and
especially on small and medium-sized businesses. Ministries are carrying out needless functions. In the next year we
should simply get rid of more than 5,000 such functions - transferring them to business or local authorities."
