Russia: Yukos oil company no longer sponsors Yabloko party
Moscow, 5 November: With the arrest of [Yukos oil company head] Mikhail Khodorkovskiy, Yukos stopped sponsoring Yabloko, its leader, Grigoriy Yavlinskiy, has said at a news conference in Moscow. "It is impossible not only to run the company from there (the Matrosskaya Tishina prison) but also to engage in sponsorship," Yavlinskiy said. He said Yabloko is ready to vouch for Khodorkovskiy and insists that the restraining measure applied to him should be changed. "Khodorkovskiy poses no danger to society," Yavlinskiy said. At the same time, the Yabloko leader stressed that he does not regard Khodorkovskiy as a political prisoner.
