Police Get New Admin Training An INVERNESS-based training company is helping Northern Constabulary's officers and support staff augment their
existing skills by offering in-house, modern apprenticeships in administration and management. The administration
qualification offers police and support staff the opportunity to achieve an SVQ Level 3 qualification in administration
and IT skills based on the ECDL (European Computer Driving Licence) training model, which is internationally
recognised.

Veteran bows out A WICK man who has the distinction of being the last trained barrel-maker in the royal burgh retires
today after a career spent working at Dounreay. Billy Farmer completed an apprenticeship as a cooper in his home town
but by then the once-buoyant herring trade had died away. As a 20-year-old, he was among the first to start up as a
process worker at the nuclear plant, which was then still under construction. He bows out after a 45-year stint working
at the site.
Algae alert THE Western Isles Council revealed yesterday that recent samples taken at Loch Steisevat, Leverburgh,
have indicated the presence of blue-green algae. As a precautionary measure, notices have been posted warning that
contact with the water or algal scum should be avoided.
Fort visit CHILDREN from Coulhill Primary School in Alness became the first pupils to visit the revamped
Highlanders' regimental museum at Fort George on Wednesday. They visited under a new World War II educational
visits scheme, designed and written to complement work done by primary six and seven children as part of their
curriculum.
