31 October 2003 04:42 NARGIS TEA TO BE RELAUNCHED IN RUSSIA (under new logo and design) Limtex (India) Ltd (LIL) of Kolkata has proposed to relaunch the `Nargis' brand of tea in Russia by Sep 2003.
The `Nargis' brand will however be introduced under a new logo and design in Russia and other overseas markets.
LIL had earlier acquired the `Nargis' brand from Project India Blend (PIB). The brand had been created
exclusively for the Russian market.
A consortium of tea companies including Tata Tea, the Goodricke Group, Williamson Magor, and Warren Tea had set up
PIB. The brand had remained idle following the economic crisis in Russia in early 1999.
LIL had entered into a memorandum of understanding with `Servichai' of Russia to market and distribute
`Nargis' tea in Russia. LIL will use the tie-up to market value-added tea under the `Nargis' brand.
It will market the brand as packaged tea and not in bulk. The company will position other teas such as Assam Orthodox
whole-leaf and Assam CTC under the `Nargis' brand. Apart from Russia, LIL is planning to export `Nargis' brand
tea to other CIS countries and West Asia. During 2002- 2003, LIL had exported around 13 million kg of tea worth Rs80
crore to various countries. It expects to post a turnover of Rs58 crore in 2003-2004. LIL is planning to launch the
`Nargis' tea brand in India by Dec 2003.
