Commenting on the decision of a Greek court of appeals not to extradite
businessman Vladimir Gusinsky to Russia, the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation said that the status of the media magnate had not changed, and he was still accused of large scale fraud.
According to the Information and Public Relations Department of the Prosecutor General’s Office, there has been no official notification of the court decision from Greece so far. The Greek court said the charges against Mr. Gusinsky did not constitute a crime under Greek law.
Vladimir Gusinsky, a media magnate who holds both Russian and Israeli passports, was arrested in Athens on August 21 on an arrest warrant issued by the Russian Interpol bureau. He was released on bail a week later, but he had to stay in Greece pending a court hearing. The Prosecutor General’s Office of Russia accuses Mr. Gusinsky of financial fraud and money laundering. The businessman himself insists that his case is purely political.
