"Expert RA" Rating agency has prepared the 9th annual rating of the biggest industrial companies of Russia "Expert-200".

According to the "Expert-200" rating research results, the cumulative revenues of 200 biggest Russian companies failed to reach the pre-default level. The real growth rate of the big business turned out to be practically zero. By 2002 results the cumulative net sales increased by 13,6 % with the inflation rate of 15,1 %.
However, in spite of the negative dynamics of quantitative indices, the qualitative characteristics of the big business are gradually improving. There are some positive changes in the structure of activity of the companies listed in "Expert-200". The big business definitely shifts from resources mining to their processing. In most industries there is a definite tendency to produce products of a deeper level of procession. Companies pay more attention to technologies` upgrading, management including.
That`s why it`s not surprising that the most dynamic companies of the 2003 rating are processing companies oriented to the local market: companies of the food and tobacco industries. At the same time in the top twenty of the most profitable companies there appear food companies and machine-building corporations.
In middle-term prospect the expanse of processing industries will most probably go on. The growth potential for resource companies is even now quite limited. At the same time the business of processing industries is very promising and their great prospects could be realized in the nearest future if favourable macroeconomic situation holds on.

"Expert 200" - is an annual rating of the biggest industrial companies of Russia. The technique of making up "Expert 200" was developed in 1995 by the specialists of "Expert" magazine and "Expert RA" rating agency, and in 1999-2001 it was revised by PricewaterhouseCoopers company.
Two indices (net sales in 2002 and the market capitalization as of September, 1st, 2003) were chosen as the main criteria for the rating. The information for the rating was obtained from the companies proper, from State Statistics Committee, ministries, corporate sites in the internet.
