20 September 2003 22:47 Economic crises are not threatening Russia - Putin MOSCOW. Sept 20 (Interfax) - Russia is not facing a threat of new economic crises, Russian President Vladimir Putin
said on Saturday.
"For the first time in many years, we are not facing endless threats of repeated economic crises," Putin
said at the ongoing Unified Russia congress.
"Life goes on and gives rise to new tasks," he said.
Russia's strategic goals are "to double GDP within ten years, to eradicate poverty and to modernize the
Armed forces," he said.
"It takes a common effort to attain them. Parties, especially those that have a realistic chance of winning the
State Duma elections, should become actively involved," he said.
"Political parties should be a few steps ahead and guide society. To accomplish this, they need to have an
awareness of society's demands and its citizens' needs," he said. Parties should "suggest to the
state and citizens a large strategic agenda for developing Russia and resolutely defend the decisions meeting
people's hopes," he said.
Then, they will be able to win votes and, most importantly, voters' trust, he said. [RU EUROPE ASIA EEU EMRG
