19 September 2003 19:48 Russian unemployment on decline MOSCOW. Sept 19 (Interfax) - The number of unemployed people in Russia totaled 5.52 million at the end of August
2003, down 110,000 in one month and 774,000 since the start of the year, the State Statistics Committee reported on
Friday.
Unemployment statistics in Russia are compiled following the International Labor Organization's guidelines.
People who do not have jobs but are seeking them actively through employment agencies, media advertisements, friends,
etc. and are prepared to take jobs on short notice because they are healthy and do not have to look after children or
