Indonesia said to seek more military cooperation with Russia
Jakarta, 12 September: Indonesia has confirmed its readiness to develop military and technical cooperation with Russia. House of Representatives Speaker Akbar Tandjung said this on 11 September at a meeting with a Russian Federation Council delegation led by Ilyas Umakhanov, the first deputy chairman of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs. The delegation arrived in Jakarta to attend the 24th ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Organization meeting. "Our first major deal in military and technical cooperation in the 21st century has every chance to become a prologue to further expansion of Indonesian-Russian military ties which have a huge potential," Tandjung said.
