04 September 2003 21:49 Russia reports seasonal price drop of 0.4% in August (Part 3) MOSCOW. Sept 4 (Interfax) -Russia's consumer prices fell in August, by 0.4%.
Prices fell by an average daily 0.013%, the State Statistics Committee said.
Although prices have a tendency to fall in the summer months, the last time they did so in Russia was in August and
September 1997, by 0.1% and 0.3% respectively. Consumer prices actually grew, by 0.1%, in August last year.
Inflation was 8.3% in January-August 2003, compared with 9.9% in the first eight months of last year.
The basic consumer price index was 100.7% in August and 106.2% in the eight months.
In August, food and drink prices fell 1.4% while non-food prices grew 0.6% and service charges grew 0.7%. In the
first eight months, food and drink prices grew 6.3% (6.6% in January-August 2002), nonfood prices 5.7% (7.2%) and
