Russia to send peacekeepers to Iraq only after UN authorisation - minister

Russia may consider involvement in an international mission in Iraq proceeding from a relative resolution of the United Nations Security Council, Russian Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov said Friday. "The UN Council should, first of all, issue a clear mandate for such an international force and then decide who will lead it," said the minister. "We are not "allergic" to the United States' possible leadership in the mission. But we insist that its action should be strictly in line with a relative UN mandate," he emphasised.
