21 August 2003 08:21 Russia`s Irkutsk Region starts paying wage arrears to teachers Irkutsk, 21 August: Irkutsk Region started paying wage arrears and annual leave money to teachers, ITAR-TASS learnt
today at the financial division of the regional administration. For this purpose, the regional budget allocated a
subsidy of R75m to municipalities.
According to financial division chief Anatoliy Kozlov, the money was delivered to 13 cities and districts where
"passions were flying especially high". The city of Angarsk had "frozen" salaries of R14.5m for May
and June. Tayshet paid wages only to school technical personnel, while R12.5m are needed for payment to teachers.
Educators in Ust-Kut, Cheremkhovo, Bodaybo, Chunskiy, Tulun and other districts are also waiting for payment of their
wage arrears.
"There should not be any wage arrears in any municipality by the start of the school year on 1 September,"
Kozlov emphasized.
