14 August 2003 05:15 NTMK sends first batch of pipe slabs to U.S. Steel MOSCOW. Aug 14 (Interfax) - Nizhny Tagil Metallurgical Combine (NTMK), a major steel works from Russia's
Sverdlovsk region, has sent a first trial batch of pipe slabs to United States Steel Corporation, EvrazHolding, which
owns the controlling stake in NTMK, said in a press release.
The companies agreed on the order in April 2003 when a U.S. Steel delegation visited NTMK. U.S. Steel were able to
see how the slabs were produced and study quality control methods. In the next few months the companies approved all the
parameters of the deal.
The order for the first batch of 900 tonnes was sent to NTMK in July 2003. U.S. Steel will require about 700,000
tonnes a year.
NTMK already has experience of working on the North American market, the release says.
NTMK is one of Russia's five top roll producers. Production increased 4% year-on-year in the first half of 2003
to 2.78 million tonnes. [RU ASIA EUROPE EEU EMRG US TRD STL RES CORA] me <>
