Russian early warning system registers US missile launch
Moscow, 6 August: The space-based elements of Russia's early warning system registered the training launch of a US Minuteman-3 intercontinental ballistic missile on Wednesday [6 August]. The Pentagon informed Russia about the upcoming launch in advance, the Defence Ministry told ITAR-TASS. The ICBM was launched from the US Vandenberg air base at 1304 (0904 gmt) at a battlefield on the Kwajalein Atoll in the Pacific Ocean. The missile travelled a distance of about 7,200 km. The US strategic forces have 500 silos with Minuteman-3 missiles and 50 with MX missiles. Ninety-eight per cent of the US ICBMs are on combat duty.
