PGNiG`s Gas Tender Protested Against by Bidders
According to unofficial information, the PGNiG state-owned natural gas monopoly has been filed with a protest from at least one of the bidders in the recently decided tender for the supplies of 2 bn cubic metres of gas. The winner of the tender is the Russian Sinclair, which will sign a contract for many years of constant supplies of gas from Ukraine. Rumour has it, however, that Sinclair had offered the lowest price. The Office for Competition and Consumer Protection (UOKiK) has already been informed that PGNiG is taking advantage of its monopolistic position and breaking the public procurement act. Elcom from Sanok and Aleksander Gudzowaty's Bartimpex are mentioned unofficially as companies that wish to fight further for their rights. Both refrain from commenting on the rumours. Meanwhile, Sinclair may face even graver problems, as its contract with the Ukrainian gas operator NAK may be annuled. Sinclair would be left with PGNiG's contract, but without any gas to transfer.
