04 August 2003 06:33 Construction Firms May Succeed in Russia Polish construction companies have great chances for increasing their investments in Russia, where apartment
construction is developing rapidly, says the head of the State Construction Chamber (PIPHB) Zbigniew Bachman. However,
Bachman states that the government should assist the process, otherwise western companies will get there before Polish
construction firms. "If we fail to take over several construction works in 2 years' time, we will be
eliminated form that market," stresses Bachman. According to him, the Russian government wants to double the number
of constructed apartments. The Russians are said to be willing to co-operate with Polish companies within such problems
as technology and organisation of construction works. Polish engineers and architects enjoy a very good opinion in
Russia. "So far we have been able to offer competitive prices of commodities and services, but now China's
products are more competitive," stresses Bachman
