28 July 2003 07:35 Putin tells US businessman investment starting to flow both ways [Presenter] Russian President Putin met the head of American International Group [AIG], Maurice Greenberg, in the
Kremlin today. The US businessman noted positive changes in Russian legislation. Putin said the investment process
between Russia and the USA is becoming a two-way process: not only Americans are investing in Russia but Russians are
beginning to invest in the USA.
[Putin] We know well - and not only through [chairman of Russia's Chamber of Commerce and Industry Yevgeniy]
Primakov - about your corporation's activities. I must say that it is very important for us that our Chamber of
Commerce and Industry is working with you. Your plans to sign documents directed at developing a mortgage system in
Russia together with the State Committee on Construction and Housing Infrastructure is a matter of top priority for us.
It is nice to note that the investment process is becoming two-way traffic.
My colleagues and I are preparing for a meeting with US President George Bush in September this year. George and I
often discuss economic problems. I think that it is these issues that should be the main focus of discussion at this
meeting, the problems of economic development and cooperation.
[Greenberg, in English with Russian translation over] We are currently gathering funds to invest more in the Russian
economy. As you have said, we are currently preparing to sign a memorandum on mutual understanding in mortgage and
building construction. I believe that recently US business has started showing more interest in investment in the
Russian economy than before.
