20 November 2002 00:00 The Age: Top-end American franchise muscles in to a bare market US-based Spearmint Rhino has announced plans to establish a presence in Australia. The strip club operator will open
its first Australian franchise in Melbourne's popular King Street in October 2002. The venue will be an upmarket
one, with customers paying up to $A50 a head for admission. Spearmint Rhino has 53 franchised clubs in North America,
Europe and Russia. Mystical Melody, the head of the Striptease Artists Australia union, warns that existing venues are
already hard-pressed to find enough employees, and questions the viability of a new entrant.
