Moldovan jobless statistics at odds with international agency`s figures
Chisinau, 8 July: Six unemployed job-hunters claim each new vacancy in Moldova at present, according to the republic's statistics bureau. Four thousand and three hundred vacancies are on offer while the army of the unemployed amounts to 27,600 people. According to the International Labour Bureau, the actual number of jobless people in Moldova is close to 140,000. Most of them do not care to register because it is impossible to survive on a jobless benefit of 176 lei (some 13 dollars) a month. For this reason, nearly 500,000 Moldovans (almost one out of every three able-bodied persons) are hunting jobs in Russia, Italy, Turkey, Greece and other countries.
