25 September 2002 07:05 Sheffield plays host to the worlds e-educators In one of the largest gatherings of its kind e-learning experts from all over the world will be gathering in
Sheffield to showcase new applications and advance the technical specifications that they are founded upon. The event is
sponsored by Sheffield based Ufi Ltd and is entirely open to the press. Event name: IMS Open Technical Forum Date: 26
September 2002 Venue: Magna Science Adventure Centre, Sheffield UK Size: 350+ presenters and attendees from UK, U.S.,
Japan, Australia, Finland, Singapore, and Russia.
Event purpose:
To convene IMS member organisations and others whose work focuses on developing and applying universal technical
specifications for e-learning. Participants share a common goal of helping create the technical infrastructure needed
for truly global e-learning. Sheffield event has particular emphasis on advances made in Europe, especially in the
UK.
Key activities:
Opening speech by newly-appointed DfES Head of E-Learning Strategy Unit Diana Laurillard. Morning panel on achieving
technical conformance, afternoon panel on E-learning implementations in the UK; event concludes with showcase of
e-learning applications through a "Member Exchange."
