The tragedy that unfolded at a North Ossetian school was the first step of a large scale sabotage action, the Kommersant newspaper reports.
According to the newspaper, the school attackers had a minimum goal of rekindling the old Ingush-Ossetian conflict, and their maximum goal was to unleash a war in the North Caucasus. So far, everything goes according to their plan.
From the beginning, the gang that attacked the school, was assigned the role of cannon fodder in a large scale action planned by Shamil Basayev, a notorious Chechen warlord. Though, the school hostage takers might not be aware of it. Demands made by the terrorists were unacceptable, and child hostages were doomed to die. This action was aimed at distracting Russia’s attention from Chechnya, making federal forces to work on two fronts, sources in law enforcement agencies told Kommersant. But this plan was smashed by the unexpected storm of the school by special forces.
Now, rebels are sending their agents to North Ossetia’s public rallies, demonstrations and burial processions. They are calling on the Ossetians to take revenge. Law enforcement officers say they are Basayev’s agents, but there seems to be no definite proof. Something has to be done, otherwise the North Caucasus will explode.
Another Russian newspaper, Vremya Novostei, also reports that the Beslan drama was part of a planned chain of terrorist acts. According to the newspaper, Dagestan is marked as the next target.
Chechen intelligence services say the bandits planned a school siege in Dagestan last week. They were recruiting young Chechen women as suicide bombers, but the Federal Security Service arrested the female recruiter. A criminal case was opened against her under Article 205 of the Russian Criminal Code (terrorism).
Sulim Yamadayev, commander of a special mountain battalion, confirmed that a large terrorist action was planned in Dagestan. According to him, $500,000 had been allocated for the operation, which was averted by intelligence services.
“50 militants have been neutralized in the Gudermes, Shelkovo, Kurchaloi and Nozhai-Yurt regions of Chechya. Twelve people have been arrested, six of them are employees at various law enforcement agencies of Chechnya”.
Intelligence services know the sponsors of these terrorist actions. According to them, the Beslan school siege and the planned action in Dagestan had been funded by Arab field commanders Abu Khavs, Abu Dzhaber and Abu Rabia.
